POSH PARKS OF THE TOON CYCLING TOURITINERARY
THE HEART OF INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE
Begin your cycling tour at The Cycle Hub. After being fitted with a bike we’ll take a leisurely drive through the Ouseburn quarter, the former cradle of industrialisation that has been turned into a creative cultural hub with a vibrant community feel.
JESMOND - THE POSH END...
Continue your bike tour across Heaton Park into the beautiful Jesmond Dene Park, formerly the private garden’s of the city’s most prolific industrialist of the 19th century, Lord Armstrong and today a recreational space with its own inner city petting zoo and many interesting features.
COWS - LOOK OUT!
Your journey then takes you across Jesmond, a student mecca with a buzzling high street and onto the Town Moor - Newcastle’s green lungs. It’s larger than New York’s Central Park and, oddly, you’ll find some 600 cattle grazing in the middle of the city thanks to a ancient grazing rights still upheld today by the Freemen of Newcastle. Take a break and enjoy a drink or snack at the Palace of Arts by the beautiful artificial lake of Exhibition Park, today home to Wylam Brewery, a local micro-brewery.
NEWCASTLE CYCLING TOUR - THE HEART OF IT
The second part of your tour takes you into the heart of Newcastle: at first, explore the campus area of Newcastle and Northumbria Universities, the city’s famous Great North Museum Hancock. Then on to the classical Grainger Town with its beautiful sandstone buildings along the famous Grey Street, through the city’s notoriously famous Bigg Market. See the city’s name giver, the old Norman Castle Keep before crossing the oldest bridge over the River Tyne, the famous High Level bridge.
RIVERS & BRIDGES
For the last part of your journey enjoy a cycle along Newcastle’s regenerated Quayside with fantastic views of its famous seven bridges and contemporary architecture of the Sage Gateshead, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts before crossing the Millennium Bridge to return to your starting point.
